DON’T BE CAUGHT OFF GUARD – READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION PRIOR TO INITIATING A PETITION
Please be aware that an approved petition for ANY petition type, could affect a student’s bursar account or student aid in a way that may cause a student to owe money. Before initiating ANY petition, you should consult with Bursar and Student Aid staff members to determine financial and student aid implications. In addition, student athletes, students in the Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP), international students, and students receiving veterans benefits can be impacted, and should consult with those offices to avoid losing eligibility or benefits.
Students identified below should consult with the office indicated prior to submitting a petition for any retroactive procedure.
Because the decision to withdraw has far-reaching ramifications, students should receive advising when considering a regular or retroactive withdrawal.
When considering withdrawal, all students should consult with campus resources if appropriate, e.g., Student Disability Resources, Adult Learner Programs & Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Multicultural Resource Center.
In addition, students identified below MUST consult with the indicated office prior to withdrawing:
Student-Athletes (Intercollegiate, University Park) must meet with their academic counselors in the Morgan Academic Center prior to withdrawing; current and future eligibility for intercollegiate athletic competition will be affected. To determine whether a student is classified as a student-athlete, advisers and students can use LionPATH, the Academic Background section, which includes an Athletic Participation field that shows the student’s status.
Student Financial Aid Recipients must contact the Office of Student Aid, 314 Shields Building, University Park, by email or at 814-865-6301, or the Student Aid representative at their Penn State campus. Current and future financial aid may be at risk. How Withdrawing from School Effects Your Financial Aid and Tuition Adjustment Policy provide details.
International Students must contact the International Student and Scholar Advising, 410 Boucke Building, University Park, 814-865-7681. Immigration status and sponsorship is at risk.
Veterans Benefit Recipients must go to the Office of Veterans Programs, 325 Boucke Building, University Park, or the veterans contact at other Penn State campuses. Veterans risk losing their benefits and may incur costs.
Students in the Comprehensive Studies Program should consult with undergraduate admissions at the campus where they are interested in attending/participating.
